Importance of Adi Amavasya
Tarpan of ancestors: On this day, tarpan and pinddaan of ancestors have special significance. By doing this, the soul of the ancestors gets peace and their grace is received.
Agriculture and rain: Adi Amavasya is also related to agriculture and rain. It is also seen as the arrival of the rainy season and prayers are offered for a good harvest.
Spiritual purification: Bathing in holy rivers and reservoirs on this day purifies the soul.
Adi Amavasya Puja Vidhi
Bath and purification: Take a bath in holy rivers, ponds or at home in the morning and wear clean clothes.
Tarpan of ancestors: Invite Brahmins for tarpan and pinddaan. Tarpan of ancestors is done with holy water, sesame, barley and kusha.
Pinddaan: Rice, sesame and water are used for pinddaan. It is made in the form of pind and offered at a holy place.
Worship of ancestors: Use incense, lamp, sandalwood, flowers and naivedya for the worship of ancestors. Chant special mantras for the peace and grace of ancestors.
Donation and service: Donation has special significance on this day. Donate food, clothes and dakshina to Brahmins and the needy.
Spiritual practice: Worship Lord Shiva, Vishnu or your favorite deity throughout the day. Recite religious texts and sing bhajans.
