Devutthan Ekadashi, also known as Prabodhini Ekadashi, is celebrated on the Ekadashi Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month. This day marks the awakening of Lord Vishnu from the four-month yogic sleep that begins on Ekadashi (Devshayani Ekadashi) of Shukla Paksha of Ashadh month. With Devutthan Ekadashi, all auspicious works are resumed, such as marriage, housewarming, yagna, etc.

Religious Significance of Devutthan Ekadashi

Devutthan Ekadashi is considered highly sacred in Hinduism. It is believed that on this day Lord Vishnu wakes up and the work of creation begins again in the entire universe. Worshiping Vishnu Ji on this day brings special fruits. It is said that when Lord Vishnu is in yogic sleep, all auspicious works are stopped. Devutthan Ekadashi is considered to be the beginning of auspicious works, which makes this day especially important.

Worship method

Bath and resolution:

Take a vow to fast after taking a bath in the morning.

Worship of Lord Vishnu:

Light a lamp near the idol of Lord Vishnu, offer flowers, akshat, Tulsi, and other worship materials.

Tulsi Vivah:

Tulsi Vivah also has special significance on the day of Devutthan Ekadashi. Tulsi ji is considered to be the form of Vishnu ji. Tulsi ji is decorated with red chunari, kumkum, and akshat and symbolic worship of marriage with Lord Vishnu is done.

Recitation of Vrat Katha:

Listening to or reading the story of Devutthan Ekadashi is also considered auspicious.

Food and donation:

On the day of Ekadashi fast, fruits are eaten, and there is special significance of donating food, clothes, and food to the needy.
