Vyasa Puja is a spiritual and traditional ceremony celebrated on Guru Purnima. It is specially dedicated to pay tribute to Maharishi Ved Vyasa, who divided the Vedas and made them accessible and composed great works like eighteen Puranas, Mahabharata and Shrimad Bhagavad Gita. It is also called Guru Puja as it is a day to honor the entire Guru tradition. It is celebrated on the full moon day of the month of Ashadh. This day is also known as Guru Purnima.
Significance of Vyasa Puja:
Maharishi Ved Vyasa is considered to be the author of all the scriptures of Sanatan Dharma. This day is considered to be a symbol of devotion and respect to the Guru. Guru is worshipped as a form of Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh. The Sanatana tradition states:"Gururbrahma Gururvishnuh Gururdevo Maheshwarah. Guru Sakshat Parabrahma Tasmai Shri Gurve Namah."
Method of Vyas Puja:
Preparation for puja: Select a clean place for the puja and spread a clean cloth and install the idol or picture of Vedvyas there. Bathing and meditation: Bathe yourself and wear clean clothes. Light a lamp and put incense and incense sticks at the place of worship. Mantras and Stotras: Recite the mantras and stotras of Vedvyas. "Vyasaya Vishnurupaya Vyasarupaya Vishnave. Namo Vai Brahmanidhaye Vasisthaye Namo Namah." Chant this mantra. Pooja material: Offer flowers, rice, sandalwood, roli and clothes on the idol or picture of Vedvyas.
