Devutthan Ekadashi (Prabodhini Ekadashi) Vrat Katha is considered very sacred and important in Hinduism. This story is related to Lord Vishnu's awakening from Yog Nidra and the re-creation of religion and creation. Devutthan Ekadashi is celebrated on Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month. It is also called Vishnu Prabodhini or Devuthani Ekadashi.
Devutthan Ekadashi Vrat Katha
Once in ancient times, Mother Lakshmi asked Lord Vishnu, "Prabhu, why do you go into Yog Nidra for four months in a year? How do gods, humans, and the entire creation function without you at this time?" Lord Vishnu replied, "O Goddess, this Yog Nidra of mine is necessary for the balance of the creation. From Ashadha Shukla Ekadashi to Kartik Shukla Ekadashi, I remain in Yog Nidra. At this time, the operation of the creation runs on the strength of religion, penance, and the faith of devotees. But when I wake up, all works and rituals attain perfection.” When Lord Vishnu went into a four-month yogic sleep, the terror of demons increased. Dharma and yagnas stopped, and there was imbalance in the creation. The gods sought help from Lord Shiva and Brahma Ji. Both of them asked them to be patient and told that Lord Vishnu would awaken on Kartik Shukla Ekadashi. At the appointed time, when Kartik Shukla Ekadashi arrived, all the gods together awakened Lord Vishnu. They invoked Lord Vishnu by blowing conch, bell, and chanting Vedic mantras. Lord Vishnu awakened and blessed all the gods. He said, “Whoever observes fast on this day will attain my supreme abode. From this day onwards, marriages, yagnas, and auspicious works can be resumed.” Thus, the festival of Devotthan Ekadashi became a symbol of Lord Vishnu’s awakening and the beginning of auspicious works.Importance of fasting
