Paush Sankashti Ganesh Chaturthi is a fast observed especially for the worship of Lord Ganesha. This fast is observed on Sankashti Chaturthi of every month, which is considered extremely auspicious especially when it falls in the month of Paush. By worshipping Lord Ganesha on this day, the devotees are free from all troubles with his blessings and there is happiness and peace in their lives.

It is described in the Puranas that once upon a time, a Brahmin lived in a small village with his family. His name was Bhadresh. He was very pious and a devotee of Lord Ganesha. But he was poor and had nothing. There was always some problem in the house. One day the Brahmin heard that the person who worships Lord Ganesha on the day of Sankashti Chaturthi of Paush month will soon experience prosperity, happiness, and peace. The Brahmin decided to fast on this day and observed the fast with full devotion. On the day of the fast, he took a bath and worshipped Lord Ganesha, offering modaks, jaggery, coconut, and fresh fruits to him. He specially chanted the mantra “Om Gan Ganapataye Namah” and fasted the whole day. Vrat Rules
- On this day, wake up before sunrise, take a bath and become pure.
- Fast and worship Lord Ganesha throughout the day.
- The fasting person should concentrate on worshiping and meditating on Ganesha on Sankashti Chaturthi.
Pujan Samagri
Idol or picture of Lord Ganesha, modak, coconut, durva grass, jaggery, fresh fruits, milk, honey, panchamrit (milk, curd, ghee, honey and sugar), and lamp.Pujan Vidhi
- Meditate on Lord Ganesha in the morning and light a lamp in front of his picture or idol.
- Offer modaks and fruits.
- Chant the mantra "Om Gan Ganpataye Namah" and get the blessings of Ganesha.
- Perform the aarti of Ganesha at night and break the fast at the right time.
- After the puja, food should be fed and charity should be done for the poor and Brahmins.
