Sawan Shivratri Puja Vidhi
Bath and purification: On the day of the fast, take a bath in the morning and wear clean clothes.

Once in ancient times, Parvati ji asked Lord Shiva which fast and abstinence is most dear to him. Lord Shiva said that the fast of Sawan Shivratri is very dear to him. On this day, whoever fasts and worships with faith and devotion, gets freedom from all sins and all his wishes are fulfilled. According to another legend, Lord Shiva held the Halahal poison that came out during the churning of the ocean in his throat, due to which his throat turned blue and he was called Neelkanth. Shiva devotees remember this day as the day of drinking poison and worship Lord Shiva specially.
