The fifth day of Sharadiya Navratri holds special significance for the worship of Goddess Skandamata. Goddess Skandamata is the mother of Lord Kartikeya (Skanda) and is considered a symbol of love and compassion.

Form of Goddess Skandamata

  • Devi Skandamata sits on a white lotus, hence her posture in Padmasana.
  • She has four arms – two holding lotuses, one holding Lord Skanda in her lap, and one offering blessings.
  • Her vehicle is a lion, a symbol of strength and courage.

Worship Method

  • After bathing in the morning, take a vow to observe the fast.
  • Offer fragrance, flowers, incense, and a lamp to the idol or picture of Goddess Skandamata.
  • Offering yellow or white flowers to the Goddess is considered auspicious.
  • Offer bananas and sweets – her favorite offerings.
  • Chant the mantra:
