Pradosh Vrat is an immensely significant fast dedicated to Lord Shiva, observed on the *Trayodashi* Tithi (thirteenth day) of every lunar month. On this day, devotees of Lord Shiva observe a fast with complete faith and devotion, and worship Lord Shiva.

What is Pradosh Vrat?

The *Pradosh Kaal* (Pradosh period) refers to the time approximately one and a half hours before and after sunset. Worshiping Lord Shiva during this specific time is considered to be of special significance.

Story of Pradosh Vrat

In ancient times, a Brahmin and his wife lived in a town. They both were great devotees of Lord Shiva and used to observe Pradosh Vrat regularly. But they had no children, which made them very sad. They prayed to Lord Shiva many times and finally one day they got the darshan of Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva said to the Brahmin couple, "You both have observed Pradosh Vrat with great reverence and devotion. I am pleased with your devotion and bless you with a son." With the blessings of Lord Shiva, they got a handsome and intelligent son. Their life became happy and they also taught their son the devotion of Lord Shiva and the importance of Pradosh Vrat.

Another Story

Once Chandrashekhar, a great devotee of Lord Shiva, lived in his village. He used to observe Pradosh Vrat on every Trayodashi. One day a poor man came to him and prayed to him to relieve him of his sufferings. Chandrashekhar advised him to observe Pradosh Vrat. The poor man observed Pradosh Vrat by worshiping Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva appeared pleased with his devotion and removed all his sufferings. He received the blessings of Lord Shiva and happiness and prosperity came into his life.

The Story of the Widow Brahmin Woman

In ancient times, a widowed Brahmin woman, along with her sons, would go out to beg for alms every day as instructed by the sages, and return in the evening. She would manage her household with whatever she received in alms and also observe the Pradosh fast of Lord Shiva. One day, she met a prince from the Vidarbha kingdom, who had been driven out of the capital by his enemies, who had also killed his father. The Brahmin woman took him in and raised him.
 One day, the prince and the Brahmin boy saw some Gandharva maidens in the forest. The prince began talking to Anshumati and went away with her, while the Brahmin boy returned home. Anshumati's parents arranged her marriage to Prince Dharmagupta, and he defeated his enemies and became the king of Vidarbha. Dharmagupta remembered the Brahmin woman and made her son his minister. In reality, this was the result of observing Lord Shiva's Pradosh fast. Since then, this Pradosh fast of Lord Shiva has become widely known. All desires are fulfilled by the power of this fast.
